The Chester and District United Nations Society was formed in 1943 in succession to an earlier League of Nations branch. In 1946 it became the Chester branch of the United Nations Association, with a separate youth section. The Chester branch of the association has since enjoyed the support of the Corporation, the churches and a wide range of local organisations including the major political parties, trade unions and business and professional associations.
